Preparing your 3D file
A few checks before uploading can save time when quoting and printing.
Files for the estimate tool
Use an STL or OBJ mesh, exported in millimetres. The tool accepts files up to 25 MB and 400,000 triangles, with no dimension above 300 mm. These are calculator limits; larger or more complex projects need a manual review.

Before you export
- Check the scale. Confirm the intended dimensions in your design software and export in millimetres.
- Use a closed solid. Repair holes, disconnected faces and non-manifold edges. Surface-only models cannot produce a reliable volume estimate.
- Check small features. Thin walls, fine lettering and narrow gaps may need adjustment. Highlight anything that must be preserved.
- Identify critical dimensions. Include a drawing or notes for holes, mating surfaces, threads and clearances.
- Use a sensible mesh resolution. Keep curves smooth without creating an unnecessarily large file.
What to include in your email
- The model file and required quantity
- What the part will be used for
- Preferred material and colour, if known
- Important dimensions or fit requirements
- Delivery postcode and any deadline
If the upload is rejected
Check the file type, size and scale first. An open-edge error means the mesh needs repairing before it can be estimated. If you are unsure how to fix it, email the file and the error message for advice.
